Maschine+ | Can it Techno?
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.2 месяца назад
Thanks to a friend, I got a chance to play with Maschine for a few days and made this simple sketch. Very interesting and capable DAW in a box, but I can't say I fell in love. I liked that it's easy and fast to learn, many native effects and instruments sound pretty good, awesome sampling capabilities. And some things I didn't like, for example, there is no way of using macros and mutes at the ...

Yoooo I randomly ran into Yan cooks yt while looking for help?? Frkn siccckk. Yan cook lessgoooo
Love this! How are you making the kick high pass during 2:30? Is the midi controller connected to kick channel only? 🤟
Nope, my controller is always mapped to an EQ on the Ableton master channel) But it is possible on Syntakt as well.
Ah, thank you for the response. It sounded better than Ableton Eq so I thought it was something else :) it makes sense
sounds good kick drum etc but that’s about 145bpm and it sounds slow. All the digitakt and Syntakt demos sound slow or plodding and energy draining.
Oh this is fresh as
Even if you match these frequencies and rms values, if it sounds bad, it sounds bad, and you can’t change it… Your monitors’ accuracy, flat response, and room treatment are far more important in critical listening and mixing.
Did you use a notch eq on kick and sub (around 400Hz), to bring the bass resonence up in the mix?
@@aykanakdag945 Oh right, those dips are from Bass Mint processing on my low end group 🙃
This is great! What’s the track name btw? Thanks!
I didn't properly name it yet))
@@YanCook I will keep an eye out for it! Cheers Yan!
Picked up your sample pack, 2023, today. Kick in, catalyse some tracks of my own and the work done already from over the years, emulated.
Thank you so much for this, I started producing on december last year and have been very slowly trying to learn to mix correctly, I like to think that I already have done a good amount of advancements and my ears are getting better and better. These targets that you shared although they could seem very simple definitely helped me out so much, I feel like I always accidentally either over shoot the lows and get a very opaque sound or under shoot and end up with no punch. I just did a mix following my ears and adding in these targets and wow the difference is HUGE. Everything is in its right place and it's probably the best mix I have ever done. Thank you once again, huge fan of your music and content.
Love this 🖤 resonates
Track sounding a bit psy. Nice stuff man!
I don't really understand this video. Kick / bass you say -6db, but on the RMS meter it says around -18 db. I don't see I'm supposed to read this ?
@@antosace8187 Kick + Sub of this track, when they play together in a group, is around -6dB. The dB targets are for groups.
@@YanCook hi and thanks for your reply:) I'm still trying to to understand this. I see here: -16 kick, -18 sub and - 23 bass. I' see this like around - 19 db area. I guess I am looking at this wrong.
@@antosace8187 Yes, don't look at RMS, look at True Peak values :)
PDF? 🤔
as always unbeatable... It would be incredible if you explained how you treat Panorama in each sound. Thanks to your material I have evolved a lot. respect
thanks a lot, much appreciated, incredibly helpful
Straight to the point, impeccable video styling, critical knowledge We’re blessed, thank you Yann 🙏
Bien la prod, et je vois que le polyend est à l'aise pour liver
What plug-in is it that you're using to measure RMS?
Swiss Army Meter
thank you Yan! awesome music as always...can I ask what plugin is "swiss arm..." ? is a max4live plugin?
Yes, it's a M4L meter (Swiss Army Meter) , I keep it on the master, very useful)
@@YanCook thank you!
Thanks Yan!
Track sounds fire - thanks for the level tips. This goes nicely.
The RMS values here are the real gold dust I think. You can match these with your instruments and tonally troubleshoot from there (e.g : If you've got too much low end in your, your kick will sound too quiet at the same RMS value) and look at whether instruments need to be more dynamic or less to fit the framework.
For individual instruments use RMS. For full mixes, use LUFS.
@@blakecasimir In some circumstances yes, but not this IMO. RMS is unweighted in terms of frequency, whereas LUFS is (it's the whole point of LUFS after all). LUFS is more useful for full track reference comparison, but when it comes to individual instruments, RMS and also RMS to Peak comparison can be more revealing as to the RMS value vs our perception of loudness/dynamics.
Can you explain this in simple terms for us beginners please? :) @@djvoid1
gem
@yancook as an artist: This was a really resfreshing videocontent. Nailed it. Straight, simple, everything. @yancook as a man: I would wish, one day I will understand Techno as smart as you do. Your Sounds are amazing! You didn't only did your homework... You literally explode. THX You 4 Your Service. SAIL HATAN! 6 6 6 ❌❌❌
Please show equalizers on your channels. Should low cut be up to 100hertz?
Depends on the sounds you use... At low end usually 30Hz... On Hi Hats 1000Hz... Thing about what a human ear can regocnize and in the Low End what a PA can offer to move Air! All under 30Hz would be a very fat Speaker ... lüüüüül ;)
@@Capital-Records I usually cut the sub channel around 20hz and the kick channel around 36hz. Based on what you said, there should be no frequencies below 30hertz, right?
We can't hear below 30Hz, but it can affect the RMS and mess my overall loudness, so I usually cut everything below 30-35Hz.
@@YanCook thanks sir
@@YanCook mono-stereo setting utility width-delay etc. Other than that, are you using a different plugin? like ozone imager. (I put the imager on the master channel and divide the frequencies into four; 220hz-1k-7k.) 220 is completely mono, 1k is 40-45 mono, 7k is 50-55 stereo, after 7k is 75-80 stereo (it may vary, but 220-1k-7k does not change .) Do you think this process makes sense?
this is a very good piece of advice. Concrete and direct. Hope you can do more tutorials like this!! Question. Is the sub also with sidechain compression?
Thanks, yes, it is :)
This is just gold... You get a sense of it but there is nothing like being guided and seeing and hearing it... 👌
The track is insane. Possibility of negotiating a Walkthrough ? 😅 Cheers

Useful & good stuff, big thanks!
Beautiful thank you Yan! What do you advise those using a dawless setup to do? I've been using pink noise as reference then adjust according to taste for example but I feel that's not precise enough... :D
If I were producing dawless, I would definitely check my levels on a meter before recording, at least that.
💣
Great tip Yan <3 Hope you do more of these!

Omg SAME. But maybe day before yesterday
Thank you for this ❤️ Very helpful
Thanks, helps a lot 🙏
Very helpful, thanks.
about loudnes level for each sounds, do you care about RMS value? or just the peak value
I look mostly on RMS!
I care about RMS value only on the master.
Thank you Boss
As always, amazing!! Thank You, Yan! You are an inspiration!!! 🙌🙏
